The terms for this site, and for working with me.
These cover three things: using this website, what it means when you give me a testimonial, and the default terms when we work together on a project.
See also the Privacy Policy.
Plain rules for a personal website.
The site
Read it, share it, link to it. Please don’t copy the work or pass it off as yours.
Testimonials
You let me publish your words. You can take that back at any time.
Projects
Estimates on this site are a starting point. A signed agreement is what binds us.
By using this website you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree with them, please don’t use the site.
It is here to show my work and to make it easy to reach me.
You are welcome to browse, share links and quote short passages with credit. Please don’t try to break the site, overload it, or use it to mislead anyone.
I try to keep everything accurate and up to date, but the site is provided as it is, and I can’t promise it will always be available or free of mistakes.
Who owns what.
The design of this site, the writing and my own project work belong to me. Case studies describe work done for employers and clients; their names, products and trademarks belong to them and are shown to explain my role.
Some images on the site are placeholders or illustrations. Where a case study gives a figure, it reflects my best knowledge at the time of writing.
Please ask before reusing anything beyond a short quote or a link.
What you agree to when you send me one.
- The testimonial is your own honest opinion, and you are free to give it. If your employer has rules about public statements, please check with them first.
- You give me permission to publish it on this website with your name, role and company or institution. This permission is free of charge, is not exclusive, and does not transfer ownership of your words to me.
- Your photo is used only if you said yes to that on the form.
- It is quoted outside this website (on my CV, LinkedIn, proposals and talks) only if you ticked that box on the form.
- I may shorten it or fix typos without changing its meaning, and I will show you the final wording first.
- You can withdraw your permission at any time by emailing me, and I will remove it.
- No payment is made in either direction for a testimonial.
How your details are handled is set out in the Privacy Policy.
A guide to cost and scope, not a contract.
The project request page lets you describe a project and see an estimate. That estimate is a non-binding proposal. Timelines, milestones and prices only become binding once we have both signed a written agreement for the project.
If anything on this page differs from a signed project agreement, the signed agreement applies.
The default terms for freelance and contract work.
What I need from you
Accurate information about your business and the project, access to the people and material needed to do the work, and timely feedback. If feedback or material is late, delivery dates move by the same amount.
Ownership
Design files, component libraries, tokens and prototypes made for a project remain mine until the project is paid for in full. Once it is, all rights in the final deliverables pass to you. I keep the right to show the work in my portfolio and to describe my part in it, unless we agree otherwise in writing.
Payment
- Deposit: a percentage of the estimate, paid before work starts.
- Milestones: invoiced as each agreed part is reviewed and handed over.
- Late payment: if an invoice is more than seven business days overdue, I may pause the work until it is settled.
What I can and can’t be held to.
This website is general information about me and my work. It is not professional advice, and I am not liable for loss that comes from relying on it. Links to other websites are provided for convenience; I don’t control them.
Nothing here limits any right you have under South African law that cannot be limited, including under the Consumer Protection Act.
Which law applies, and what happens when these terms change.
These terms are governed by the law of South Africa.
I may update them from time to time; the date at the top shows the latest version. A change never reduces what you have already agreed to with me in a signed agreement or on the testimonial form.
